DiversityInc. CEO Carolynn Johnson Speaks on Diversity & Inclusion and the Importance of Reliable Allies

Carolynn Johnson, CEO of DiversityInc, is committed to educating companies on the advantages of diversity and inclusion. Since taking the helm in May of 2019, she has been ensuring that the needs of all groups, such as women of color, have not only a seat at the table but a voice in the room.

Founded in 1998, DiversityInc’s mission is to bring education and clarity to the business benefits of diversity. The organization is the dominant “diversity” publication with more web traffic and social media reach than outlets such Black Enterprise, Working Mother, Hispanic Business, Diversity Executive, Diversity Journal and Diversity Woman, and they produce at least three diversity events every year — the DiversityInc Top 50 announcement in the spring, Women of Color and Their Allies event and a best practices event in the fall.

On this episode of the Support is Sexy podcast, Carolynn Johnson, CEO of DiversityInc, shares why diversity is an absolute must for your business to succeed, how to make sure there are no “ghettos or plantations in your organization,” and the importance of us, as women, having allies who have our backs.

 What you’ll learn:

  • How to define diversity, including diversity of thought, gender, etc.
  • Why women entrepreneurs need allies, mentors, sponsors, and advocates
  • How to avoid “ghettos and plantations” within your organization
  • What NOT to look for in an ally.
  • Why she started the Women of Color and their Allies Conference
