Rachel Johnson on Celebrity Styling and Celebrating Self

Stylist and image maker Rachel Johnson has been featured in the New York Times, ESPN and countless other publications for the impeccable way she creates new looks for her gentleman clients. She has been credited with “making over” the NBA and bringing a new style awareness to a number of top athletes. Her work has helped land longtime clients LeBron James on the covers of Vogue and GQ, Victor Cruz as the new face of Givenchy, Amar’e Stoudemire in front rows next to Anna Wintour, and others, such as Cam Newton and JR Smith, in the fashion spotlight that once steered clear of athletes. Rachel’s life has been a whirlwind of client meetings, fashion shows, exclusive events, designer relationships, travel and clothes–plenty of clothes.

Now, after 16 years in this fast-paced business and being wherever she was supposed to be next, Rachel says she is finally savoring the now. For so long, she says, she had been living to work; and now she is living to live.

In this episode, Rachel speaks candidly about the ins and outs of the styling business: the allure people get caught up in and what they often misunderstand. She also gives advice to future celebrity stylists (by speaking to her younger self), and tells what not-so-pretty pitfalls to avoid.
