I chatted with Topicals Skincare Co-Founders Olamide Olowe and Claudia Teng about raising capital, daring to be different in the beauty industry, and prioritizing self-care as entrepreneurs! Topicals just launched in August 2020 online and in Nordstrom’s, and they’ve raised $2.7 million from investors including Netflix CMO Bozoma Saint John and “Insecure” stars Issa Rae and Yvonne Orji.
The brand, which sold out in just hours (!) takes the focus off of having “perfect” skin and focuses on making the treatment experience more enjoyable with “Funner Flare-Ups”. Both ladies suffered from skin conditions– Claudia has severe eczema and Olamide have post barbae folliculitis — so they knew what it felt like and the effects chronic skin conditions can have on a person’s mental health, which is why they created Topicals Skincare.
