Having a conversation with Jnane Tamsna owner Meryanne Loum-Martin in the hotel’s garden in Marrakech, Morocco, was literally a dream come true. I read about Meryanne — a visionary of the industry and the first and only Black woman to own a hotel in Morocco — in several publications, including Essence and Black Enterprise — more than a year ago, and I vowed that I would one day interview her. I had no idea, however, that the interview would happen in person and that I would actually do so while staying at her stunning boutique hotel. (I am so grateful to Carmencita Whonder, Founder of OfWhonder, for making the connection.)
On this episode of the Support is Sexy podcast, recorded at Jnane Tamsna, Meryanne shares her inspiring journey from Senegal to France to Marrakech, lessons she learned from the challenges and the triumphs along the way, how she created one of Morocco’s most beloved retreats under immense pressure of a looming deadline, and the incredible plans she has for creating a space where African artists and creatives of the diaspora are celebrated!
