Producer and Playwright Trey Anthony on Turning Your Mess into Your Message — And Into Your Business

Trey Anthony, a proud Jamaican woman living in Canada, grew up surrounded by side hustles, witnessing her mother, grandmother and aunt doing everything from reading tea leaves to cutting hair. This helped Trey understand the importance of women having agency in their own lives.

But being independent and “the strong one” eventually landed Trey — who is a celebrated playwright, TV writer and producer, creator of The Kink in My Hair play and the first Black woman in Canada to have her own television show on a major network — in the hospital because of stress. What did she do while in the hospital? She continued to check email. That is until her doctor admonished her and told her she was quite possibly having a heart attack.

On this episode of the Support is Sexy podcast, Trey talks about getting over people pleasing, getting support when you need it,  saying yes — even when outside of your comfort zone and turning your mess into your message — and potentially into your business.

On this episode, you’ll learn:

  • How vulnerability opens you up to support.
  • How to turn your mess into your message.
  • Getting over imposter syndrome.
  • Say yes to opportunities outside your comfort zone.
  • Know when to answer the call.
  • Why she pushed herself to make a bold ask every week.
  • Why in order to for your business to grow, you have to let go.
