Cheryl Polote-Williamson grew up in Savannah, Georgia, with an entrepreneur father, who had construction business. Unlike her siblings, Cheryl didn’t want to be part of the business when she got older. She wanted to leave Savannah, and at 15, she left home for boarding school in Pennsylvania and never returned again for an extended period of time. The experience of attending boarding school with the children of billionaires fueled Cheryl’s adventurous spirit and opened her to unimaginable opportunities and possibilities as she traveled the world and gained exposure that staying in Savannah may never have afforded her.
But when Cheryl went away to college at Hampton University, she experienced a culture shock and she flunked out of school, returned home and went through a low period in her life — one filled with disappointment, shame and, eventually, counseling that helped her moved past it and understand herself even more. On this episode, Cheryl powerfully shares her journey, and the importance of giving yourself a second chance, knowing that you can move beyond your poor decisions, and having the courage to take your dreams off hold.
