During a backpacking trip with her husband, Kelly, Matilda Sandstroem realized that there weren’t any backpacks worth the trip, so to speak. They couldn’t find the look and functionality to fit their adventurous lifestyle. When Matilda and Kelly traveled to South America and Europe and fed kids along the way, the idea came to them to marry two very important needs they wanted to address — create a backpack with for people like them and create a way to give back by feeding the hungry. Adventurist Backpack Co. was born. as a minimalist Scandinavian style backpacks, with a cause. For every backpack sold, Adventurist Backpack Co. provides 25 meals to families in need across America, and since their launch in September 2017, they’ve provided more 65,000 meals to families in need all over the U.S. by working alongside Feeding America, and are currently sold in 40+ retailers in the western U.S. (Urban Outfitters will beginning selling the backpacks in July 2019.)
On this episode of the Support is Sexy podcast, Matilda shares how to create a brand for social good, why a social component should be a part of every business and how she leveraged press to help grow her business and forward her mission.
