Faven Ressom’s family is Eritrean, and at age seven, she came to Atlanta from Ethiopia. Though surrounded by family, Faven felt like she was on her own, like she never really belonged because of the struggle to balance her own culture with American culture. Her escape at that time? Books. As she got older, Faven’s determination led her to commit to creating inclusive environments where people felt like they belonged no matter their background.
Today, Faven is a serial entrepreneur who owns, among other companies, Faved Events, which hosts some of the most popular events in Atlanta — from brunches to food festivals — and she’s focused on developing other arms of her business, including a non-profit and a docu-series for television. On this episode of the Support is Sexy podcast, Faven talks about smart ways to leverage what’s working, navigating male-dominated industries by differentiating yourself and getting out of your comfort zone in order to evolve your brand.
On this episode you’ll learn:
- Having the courage to embrace what’s working.
- How to differentiate yourself in a saturated market.
- The importance of learning the word “no.”
- One of the most important ingredients of hosting events: intention.
- Why you have to evolve and go outside of your comfort zone.
- Why you have to believe when no one else does.
- Defining success for yourself.
